This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First grade is a crucial year, it is when most students learn to READ! Blending is vital in being able to do this. In first grade, we spend months on blending. I sit with them and teach them how to blend. I want to make sure each child has his/her own letters so we can successfully learn to blend. The magnetic boards will be used for blending, learning to write letters/words, and learning to spelling words. These supplies will allow me to cover numerous academic areas to ensure their success in first grade.

My students have come into first grade with less classroom experience due to online learning in their previous school years.

This means they were not able to have as much hands on time as they normally would have. I want to be able to still provide them all the activities we would normally do in first grade and blending is crucial to their reading success.

With these materials I will be able to give my students more opportunities for hands on learning. These are items that would give all students more support in learning the basics in reading foundations.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
