My Students

I work in a Title I school where our population of students comes from low-income households. My special education preschool classroom is inclusive and consists of students who are three and four year-olds, each with different interests, disabilities, culture, and levels of independence. We are working really hard to make each one of them as independent as possible so that they can grow up to be good citizens.

My students come to school every day excited to be here and to learn new things.

My students are fun to work with and really want to succeed. We work together as a group and individually with each student to make sure they are meeting their goals. Each student is also working toward an inclusive education experience.

We enjoy learning our letters, reading stories together and getting our wiggles out to music, and we love to learn through play. We are really working on developing friendships and appropriate social skills, which is a life skill they will need. We are also working on following directions, routines, procedures and taking care of themselves. We really love to play, because that is helping us learn!!

My Project

COVID has put a strain on how we teach our children and especially preschoolers who learn through play. It has affected both their social-emotional and academic learning.

Research has shown that kids learn the best through play and having a variety of learning-based toys, such as blocks, letter and number toys, hands-on materials, such as pegboards and pattern cards, and manipulatives, such as dancing ribbons and musical instruments, available to them is important for their academic learning and help them develop friendships.

My preschoolers come with a variety of skill levels, culture and diversity, and communication needs and because of these differences, they need a variety of "tools" to help them succeed in learning through play.
