Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in kindergarten and first grade. All of them have some sort of identified disability, though the specifics vary from student to student. All of my students require extra help with social skills, managing their bodies and academics. These students love learning and love school, but they often need a little extra creativity to make the school environment successful for them and their classmates.
My students come from high-poverty homes and most do not access extra support outside of school.
My Project
My students are kindergarteners and 1st graders who receive Special Education support for academics and social skills. My students learn best through hands-on, playful activities. These activities, such as Magna-tiles and Legos, help them stay calm and practice their interpersonal and academics skills while having fun! Sensory activities like kinetic sand can be used as rewards, to write letters and words or as a break during challenging work.
I am passionate about creating a classroom that is engaging for all learners, no matter what extra support they need.
My students are dipping their toes into the world of school for the first time and making their experience a positive one sets the tone for years of success ahead.
