My Project

By receiving these kitchen appliances, my students will have the opportunity to experience cooking in our classroom. All of the concepts in the kindergarten curriculum can be covered through cooking. Following a simple recipe will require my students to listen to and read directions in a sequential order. Math skills are utilized in cooking through quantity, measurement, and time. Science skills are addressed through the observations of ingredients such as changing from solid to liquid or liquid to solid, following safety practices, and using their five senses. Fine motor skills are used in peeling, cutting, slicing, and stirring all of the ingredients.

As my students learn this important life skill, they will be better prepared for independent living in the future.

The ability to practice and apply cooking skills will allow my students to have a better understanding of following directions in recipes, practicing math skills, and working together. My students love our cooking lessons, but unfortunately, without the required materials, we have to skip this part of the weekly unit. I believe that having all of these appliances in our classroom will be a great start to incorporating this important life skill into my students' daily routine.
