Whenever I let our families know that we are learning about fractions - they get worried about helping their child. Help me give my students engaging hands-on fraction practice that will help them master the fraction curriculum as a building block for future fraction skills.
I want to be sure my students have the proper materials they need to become fluent learners with fractions.
Why are parents so afraid of fractions? Because there are just not enough hands-on resources in classrooms to help students become fraction masters. Students just don't get enough practice with fractions.
Fractions are not scary and having the right tools can help students realize that. In fact, fractions are fun, engaging, and can make total sense when we have the right tools!
These hands-on fraction materials will give my students different modalities to help them understand the whole concept of fractions - that they are just part of a whole. This can be realized through the different materials that are being requested for this project.
These materials will be used for hands-on practice to introduce fractions as well as for daily practice during our daily math lessons. Some of the materials will be utilized for additional practice for several different fraction math tubs. Students will be able to get extra individualized fraction practice by participating in daily engaging math tubs. Students will have the opportunity to partition shapes into fractions, identify and practice fractions on a number line, compare fractional amounts, as well as identify and build fractions of a set.
My students really enjoy all the other math tubs that we have received through DonorsChoose. I know they will enjoy these as well as they are finding fractions exciting, and I really want to continue the enthusiasm they have for math.
