I am a kindergarten teacher in a low income rural area. Currently I have 24 lively and enthusiastic students who are excited about everything they will be learning in their first year at school. As their teacher, it is my job to try to provide them with the best possible education I can despite the lack of funding and resources that we currently have. This is where you can help!

One of the most important things that I teach in kindergarten is literacy. In my classroom we try to differentiate our instruction so that it meets the needs of every child and turns them into confident readers and writers. In kindergarten we are setting the ground work on which their future learning will continue to build. In the community that I teach in, many of the adults are not strong readers or writers and that causes them to struggle in their daily lives. I would like to change that for the next generation so that they can be successful not only in school, but for the rest of their lives!

To help do this, I need a listening center for my students. Having the opportunity to listen to books on CD will help improve my students fluency. It will help them learn how to track print, pay attention to punctuation, and read with expression. Listening centers also help students with different learning styles and abilities enjoy the same stories as their classmates as well as expose them to many different books and genres.

With your help, we can change the future for these children! Your donation will help make it possible for my students now and in the future to become strong readers which will someday translate into literate adults that will be able to become leaders in their community.
