My Students

My 5th grade students are hard-working, eager to learn, and energetic! They love collaborating and working as a team. In our classroom, we focus on building 21st-century skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and responsibility.

The best way to develop these skills is to have an engaging, student-centered classroom environment where students feel their learning style is valued and appreciated.

A cornerstone of this is student choice and flexibility. This applies to all aspects of our classroom, including physical space.

My Project

We all remember sitting in our desks for hours on end and fidgeting in those uncomfortable chairs waiting for the hours to pass. Thankfully, we have since learned that our brains don't work if we are not comfortable! If you are sitting in a spot that hurts or is uncomfortable, or if you are sitting for too long your brain physically starts going to sleep. By providing my students these seating options to pick from they can come in each day and choose the spot that works for them and that keeps their brain awake! Being able to wobble, bounce, and fidget keeps the brain stimulated, the ears listening, and their minds growing!
