Help me give my students an ELMO to provide visuals while I teach from home because since there are not enough bilingual materials, I need to read and show them images from a book we all work from together.
I have 20 very eager and smart kindergartners who work so hard despite their home situations and economic limitations. They are very enthusiastic about learning and adjusting to remote learning, and love every chance to learn something new with their iPads. I have seen how much they have improved in many areas, regardless of their lack of resources and the ongoing pandemic.
Most of my parents didn't know anything about how to use the technology for class and have consistently struggled, but they work very hard to support their kids and learn.
Most of my students are beginning to read, write, and solve addition and subtraction problems. I hope that this grant can further support their kindergarten year! This is the first year of school for most of my students and in addition to learning how to be successful in their native language, they are beginning to learn English as a second language. Books are their favorite way to engage with English in a fun way!
I am teaching classes virtually to a kindergarten class who opted to learn from home as well. Reading is a very important part of our kindergarten curriculum, and I have faced the problem of reading from a book and at the same time showing images through the camera that are too tiny to see while I read to them.
This is especially hard for them because they are not able to see a full image of what I'm reading or presenting to them.
Having an ELMO will allow them to visually see full images of the books that are being read to them. A monitor will allow me to see all of them at the same time on one screen while I show the book on the other screen. This way I can watch the students on the monitor and keep them engaged while I'm presenting materials or sharing documents with them.
