This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have two classes. Together, they consist of 45 amazing kids that come from the lower to middle socioeconomic status. I have a diverse group of students, including Sped, EL, and students in our local gifted program. With missing the last 9 weeks of second grade, there is a huge gap that we are working towards filling. They are all interested in different things and they dream of becoming members of society to help others and their community.
My Project
I have a very diverse group of students. With a majority of African American, Asian American, and Hispanic students, it is sometimes difficult for them to be able to find reading material that they can relate to. My students often come from lower socioeconomic areas, which in result can have them not being able to properly handle the emotions that they are feeling.
I want to be able to give my students reading material that can not only inspire them but having content that they can relate to.
With having these new books I am hoping my students will be inspired like the characters the stories are portraying and be able to open great discussions about their current feelings on aspects that are taking place in the real world.
