Leading with Heart: PBIS & SEL Rewards for Elementary Leaders!

Help me give my students in our diverse Title I third-grade classroom meaningful rewards through our PBIS, SEL, and Leader in Me-based Dragon Dollar system that promotes equity, leadership, and positive behavior.

My Project

At our Title I school, we serve a beautifully diverse group of students from a wide range of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. To support equity and inclusion in our classroom, we use a combination of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and the Leader in Me framework to ensure all students feel safe, valued, and empowered.

In our third-grade classroom, we explicitly teach social-emotional lessons each week, focusing on skills like empathy, emotional regulation, and respectful communication.

These lessons help build a positive and inclusive learning environment, reduce discipline disparities, and affirm the voices of all learners.

To recognize students who put these skills into action, we use our Dragon Dollar system, named after our school mascot. Students earn Dragon Dollars when they demonstrate leadership, kindness, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making. These behaviors are tied directly to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and our school-wide PBIS expectations.

Students then redeem their Dragon Dollars at our classroom Dragon Store, which celebrates their personal and social growth with meaningful rewards. However, as a high-need classroom, we rely on outside support to keep our store stocked with inclusive, engaging items.

I am requesting culturally responsive, inclusive rewards like art supplies, fidgets, pencils, stickers, and small toys to reinforce these behaviors and promote equity. These incentives help ensure every child feels celebrated for who they are and the growth they make—academically, emotionally, and socially.

Your donation will help us foster leadership, belonging, and justice in a way that truly makes a difference, one Dragon Dollar at a time.
