Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students consist of all kids grades K-5 at Golden Terrace Elementary School (GTE) in Naples, FL. Over 95% of GTE students are on free and reduced lunch, and over 80% come from a home where English is the second language. This poses many challenges for our students, but they are so capable and so talented. They approach each day with positivity and appreciation for their teachers and their school. We are so thankful to have them back on campus with us, and cannot wait to see how much they learn and grow this year.
My Project
Students spend 15 minutes each day learning about the 7 habits and how to integrate them into their daily lives. The bulletin board will give students a chance to display their work on our monthly habit for all students and visitors to see. This display will help promote the meaning of each habit in a student-friendly way.
Each week we nominate a "LEAD Teacher" who has been caught displaying the habits and demonstrating leadership.
Students want to decorate the special parking spot they get to use for the week. We have a team of students who refer to themselves as the "World of Color" who are excited to start decorating the school with the habits. This is the project they want to start with because it is for their teachers!
