I am so grateful for the donors to help support educators.\r\n\r\nWhen coming back from Winter Break, a lot of school supplies are running low and expectations needs to be reinforced. One of the expectations I wanted to focus on was silently reading. Often times, students don't necessarily read when asked to do so. I decided to incorporate Flashlight Fridays. I turn off the lights, students find a nice quiet corner, and they are given mini flashlights. They went crazy over this. Those flashlights was an amazing addition to our room. My students even asked to take them home to read at night.\r\n\r\nIt's also hard trying to get parents to send in supplies, after the holiday season. As part of the project, students researched birds native to Florida and then used clay to sculpt either one of the native species they learned about or an original bird species of their own design. This project allowed students to combine creativity with science while exploring sculpture techniques and working in a 3D medium.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when they first saw all of the clay materials delivered to our classroom. Many of them were excited because they had never had the opportunity to create something three-dimensional in art class before. Their excitement and enthusiasm carried throughout the project, and they took great pride in carefully crafting and decorating their birds.\r\n\r\nAfter completing their clay birds, students created nests to go along with their sculptures, making the project even more meaningful and detailed. Today, students are taking their finished projects home to share with their families. It truly had a huge impact on all of my students grades k-5 at Golden Terrace Elementary and many of my students at Lavern Gaynor Elementary. We used the glue and paint for many projects some include weaving snakes with Kinder and 1st graders, Basquiat mixed media artworks, and Jeff Koons inspired balloon dog landscapes for my 4th and 5th graders. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the glue and paint they were shocked that someone was willing to donate to our school. They were overjoyed when they realized they were going to be using new glue sticks that weren't dried out or clogged. They loved using them!\r\n\r\nMy students were proud of the work they created and they are taking everything home this week as the year is coming to an end. Many of them have expressed how excited they are to show their parents. Thank you for making our year run smoother. Testing time is always hard on teachers and students. I wanted to make our ELA Boot Camp fun and engaging and although we are studying/preparing for our Fast Testing, I didn't want students to be discouraged about reviewing everything.\r\n\r\nWithin our district, we start a boot camp, for each subject area, 15 days before the testing date. I wanted to make this time an actual Kid Friendly Bootcamp. On the 1st day, students \"Enlist\" and came up with their strengths and weaknesses for ELA standards and I even allowed them to come up with a cadet name, for which I called them the duration of the camp.\r\n\r\nStudents were able to earn the boot camp theme pencils, dog tags, and bracelet. Being that they were working towards these amazing items I received from Donors Choose, it made the process so fun, rewarding, and engaging. They really worked hard. It did not seem like we were preparing for a state test. They use the binoculars to find their evidence in the text.\r\n\r\nI am whole heartedly grateful for the items that I was able to use/reward my students with.
