Over 75% of my students get free/reduced lunch due to the low socioeconomic status of their families. Many of them have no access to technology outside of the classroom, and currently we only have 5 desktops for a class of 21 students. Many of my students are gifted and high achieving and crave new knowledge. They go above and beyond the expectations I set for them, and want to be the best they can be. This year, in fifth grade, all testing will be computerized so the only way to prepare the children is to give them exposure to the computer. Our school is Title I, meaning the majority of our population comes from low socioeconomic status and rely on us as a school and community for support. Our teachers and administrators work extra hard to meet not only the academic needs of our children but also their social and emotional needs.
