Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Almost all of my students come from low-income families and live in an area where crime and drug use are common on the streets outside of school. In spite of these obstacles, many of my students come to a school dedicated and wanting to learn something new.

Many of my students face multiple challenges in their personal lives that can make learning difficult, but they still continue to grow in amazing ways.

They inspire and encourage me to learn and become a better teacher for them in many ways.

Oftentimes, my classroom is a break from the demanding work of their other classes and a place where they feel comfortable expressing themselves in a positive way. They use art as an outlet to navigate the world around them and explore difficult topics in a healthy way. In an age group where children are often exploring and learning about who they are as a person, classes, where they can feel comfortable and safe, are a rare necessity.

My Project

My students have had the amazing opportunity to learn about how artists use things like circuits and 3d printers to make a living being creative and using the artistic skills they are learning about everyday in Art class.

Many of my students are interested in going into more industrial careers where they are creating things using computer numerical control machines to aid them.

I would like to expose my students to the basic concepts of using these machines in my classroom by giving them the hands on experience of using a CNC laser engraver in order to prepare them for the workforce they will be entering.
