My students need a laptop to program robots for the US FIRST Robotics robots we build every year and for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles or AUVs that we build for Robosub.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an extracurricular STEM program that exposes kids to STEM competitions and pushes them to learn how to compete against colleges and universities from around the world. We have been very successful at getting kids to excel and go on to great engineering programs. We do this with your help.
Our students attend a Title I school, which means over 40% of the school is classified as in poverty; in our case 90% of our kids qualify for free and reduced lunch program at the school.
Our school is an inner city school with the typical inner city school problems. Many of the kids at our school have one parent and many are the first in their family to graduate from high school.
In 2004, four students from our school entered an underwater robotics competition and we won! Second place was MIT, that is right, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 50 Eggs Films is making a documentary on the story of the four boys called Underwater DREAMs and Lionsgate is making a movie called La Vida Robot that will be out in theaters in the fall of 2014.
Our after school engineering program has been extremely successful at getting kids excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Its been because of people like you that our dreams become possible!
My Project
The laptop will be used for programming the many robots we have. We need laptops because of their portability since we operate the robots in many different locations across the U.S. There are many times that we operate the robots off campus, and it is essential that we have laptops for this purpose.
The laptops are not only used for operating the robots, but to program them as well. The same portability that allows us to take laptops to competitions, also lets the programmers take the laptops to wherever they can get help during programming. So as you can see, portability is the key!
Our program is one of the top robotics programs in the country, and it is because we have laptops for the students to use. We currently have one laptop and our programmers fight over have the time to use it. Our program is growing and we need more laptops. Please help us by getting us another laptop so we can continue being one of the best in the country! Thanks!
The students at our school are poor and many are on federally-assisted lunch programs.
They cannot afford to buy the laptops we need. The school is an inner city school with the same lack of funds to buy laptops for students as other intercity schools across the country. By helping us get another laptop, you are putting us on the same level playing field as the top schools in the country. Once given the chance, our student take advantage of it and excel.
