Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Due to the growing population of my students coming from other countries each year, roughly 50% of my students are Spanish-speaking. I would like to focus this summer on taking online Spanish courses to be able to better communicate with my students instead of relying on translator technology that often fails to communicate instructions properly.

I, as well as many other educators I know, use the summer and free time during the school year to continue our own education through online resources to ensure students are getting the most up-to-date education possible.

However, I currently lack a reliable computer to be able to complete courses online outside of school. Other courses I intend to take are classroom management courses geared towards high school age range instructors, effective teaching methods for inclusion classes (classes that include students that have special educational needs), art history, and new techniques and methods of creating art through a wide range of mediums and materials. I also intend to use this laptop later in my career to attend graduate school online.

Obtaining updated technology would mean a world of difference to my personal growth as an educator, and in turn give the best education possible to my students, especially giving me the ability to better communicate.
