Knitting a Warm Blanket

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn how to hand-knit blankets for themselves and their families to stay warm this winter.

My Students

My students are fighters. Many of them come from adversity but work so hard to graduate, then go on to college and hope to have fulfilling careers that break the cycle of poverty from which they come.

The students I work with are in grades 6-12, but I primarily focus on the students in grades 9-11.

They are diverse in culture, talents, and academia.

But it shouldn't all be academics for them.

My Project

This yarn will provide the materials for me to teach my students how to hand knit blankets. With this skill, they will be able to hand knit blankets and scarves for their families.

They will be engaged in an after school activity during which they will learn basic hand knitting and after a few sessions they will have completed a blanket.

The activity will be open to up to 24 students, both male and female. Any student who is interested is welcome to sign up.

I feel that these skills are important.
