Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, we are launching a student-led kindness campaign that will extend far beyond our classroom walls. My students will lead a school-wide initiative called “Kindness Corner”—a rotating interactive space where acts of kindness, service, and recognition are celebrated and encouraged across grade levels and staff.

The core of this project is a three-sided easel, which will be transformed into our Kindness Station—a mobile, creative hub where students will: Design inspirational posters and banners that rotate weekly and are displayed around the school.

Create peer recognition notes and thank-you shout-outs for staff and fellow students. Organize acts of service like “Make-a-Card Mondays” for school staff or local essential workers. Promote school-wide challenges such as “Say Something Nice Week” or “Help a Friend Day.”

Each week, a team of students (special needs & general education) will be responsible for sharing messages over the intercom/posters in hallways, encouraging their peers to spread kindness school-wide.

Our school serves a diverse population, including many students from underserved backgrounds and those with special needs. Many students struggle with social-emotional regulation, anxiety, and behavior. This campaign will give every student a role in building a more inclusive, compassionate, and connected school environment.

Additionally, we aim to reach local community helpers (e.g., mail carriers, sanitation workers, and crossing guards) through student-made appreciation cards and posters.

By empowering students to be leaders in this initiative, we are teaching them that they are capable of lifting others—and that kindness is a skill that can be practiced and shared with purpose.

The 3-sided easel is essential because it provides a rotating workspace where multiple students can collaborate at once. It will allow us to display and create materials on all sides—such as poster-making on one side, thank-you card design on another, and planning space on the third.
