Help me give my students decor and school supplies to welcome them and their families to kindergarten. The crayons and pencil bags will be one less thing that parents will need to worry about during their school shopping experience.

My Project

We are trying to boost participation and engagement as we welcome new kindergarten students and their families to school for the very first time. First impressions are everything! We want to allow parents to have a designated time just for kindergarten, before rushing off to their other children's classrooms.

Our five kindergarten teachers and instructional assistants will meet with the families and provide them with important information to help their child get started on a positive journey.

We will offer incentives, such as Crayola crayons, pencils, and pencil bags, that parents can mark off their shopping lists. The students and parents can help themselves to a snack, as part of our welcoming experience. While we meet with the adults, the children can also put their new supplies to good use as they color their coloring books which will allow the parents to have more time to focus on the material being shared without the worry of "entertaining" their little ones.

We will also provide photo props for parents to use to take those "Welcome to Kindergarten" pictures that will last a lifetime. We will also provide parents with a pen, to help them as they fill out paperwork or take notes. We are striving to build a firm foundation of parent engagement, from our very first interaction. Students will also get to interact with their new classmates as they create some colorful creations.
