The students at my school are from a rural, farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school, which are schools who have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We move around our classroom a lot at different times of the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling while engaged in learning while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities. This particular project will get them moving, thinking, and stimulate their learning by creating!
In my Financial Literacy project, my sweet kiddos will get some great resources to start learning the basics of counting and adding. The number puzzles and ten frame boards will help them master the basic order of numbers and one-to-one match counting numbers and start basic addition. The giant dice will be used to count the dots and in some of our money games like Penny-Nickel and Penny-Nickel-Dime Exchange Games! You roll the dice and get that many pennies and practice exchanging for nickels and dimes!
These items will really boost my Kindergartners understanding of how Financial Literacy works starting with counting, adding, and moving into money!
The Grocery Store dramatic play accessories, the shopping cart, and the food will be used to enhance our Happy Home Dramatic Play area. I have a cash register and this will be used to set up a grocery store area where the kids can practice buying groceries with play money and get an understanding of how it all works! It will be an amazing real life learning experience to help them tie it all together! The possibilities are endless with these wonderful items!
