My students need an ultraviolet sterilization cabinet to kill bacteria and other germs on their lab safety goggles so that the goggles can be used by multiple classes.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For the first time, 4th and 5th grade students at our school will be able to take full advantage of the science lab. It's a big deal when an elementary school has a lab, and an even bigger on when that school serves high-need, inner-city students. This year my principal has given me the opportunity to teach lab science once a week to every 4th and 5th grade class. In addition to preparing students for Florida's high-stakes 5th grade science test, my goal is to get students excited about science and show them how academic success in the discipline can put them on a new life path.
Thanks to the generosity of previous donors, last year I acquired a set of 30 safety goggles for my classroom. This allowed my students to safely perform experiments and, more importantly, get excited about the process of science. Their faces lit up whenever we got to wear the goggles - they became little scientists themselves! I want to make that experience possible to all of my classes this year, but I have to clean the goggles first. It isn't safe or healthy to have students swapping eye wear without sterilizing it first.
The solution is an ultraviolet sterilization cabinet. Every functioning middle and high school science lab has one. These cabinets are by far the most efficient and effective way to sterilize eye wear that will be shared among students. The initial cost is high, but the cabinet and goggles will remain in the school, allowing them to be used by hundreds of students in years to come.
You will make it possible for all of my students to fully experience the joy of learning hands-on science in our school lab. You will allow all of my students to be safe and healthy. Having this cabinet means that any student can do any experiment - not just the few that don't require safety goggles.
