They are especially excited when lessons include interactive activities, educational programs, digital research, and opportunities to create and collaborate. I have noticed that even some of my more hesitant learners are more willing to participate when technology is incorporated into the lesson. Of course, one of the main skills for this age group, three to five year old, is turn taking. Also, how to get a friend attention is practiced regularly during our morning meetings. With that said, our new tricycles gave us lots of opportunities to impact learning in this way, especially since the new materials were very motivating! The majority of the students in my classroom have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and many struggle with deficits in social skills. We have to design opportunities for our students to interact with one another and these tricycles provided not only opportunity but enthusiastic motivation! That being said, equally important are the gross motor skills and functional play skills which are acquired through the use of these tricycles. Most of the students in my classroom have priority educational needs on their IEPs in the area of functional play skills. I would say most have goals to acquire 10 new play skills using different toys. The new tricycles give us one new toy as well as a different activity for these students. Being out in the fresh air, exercising and being involved in a group activity are very positive experiences for these young children, helping them to develop confidence as the very start of their academic careers. The headphones with microphones allow the program to clearly hear each student's voice, which is essential for the software to accurately support their reading development. Because each child has their own headset, they can focus better, read comfortably, and practice at their own pace without distractions from the classroom environment.\r\nMany of our English language learners have especially benefited from this technology. Some students who were previously shy about reading aloud now feel more confident practicing with the app because they can work independently using their headphones.
