This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are such an amazing, energetic and fun group this year. They love the Movement and Brain Breaks that are part of our classroom routine, particularly after they work hard on their learning. Each and every day, students are showing up and trying their best in math, reading, writing, grammar/spelling, science, social studies and art.

I have several students with disabilities pertaining to inattentiveness, hyperactivity and distractibility — even though Fidget Kick-Bands are an accommodation required on several of their Individualized Education Plans, my school is lacking those resources.

In order to accommodate the lack of resources, I have wrapped bicycle tire inner-tubes around the legs of several chairs. However, they do not function well and three have snapped just this week.

I will use the materials in this project to provide my entire class with kick-bands, along with spares just in case they break.

In addition, I am asking for whiteboard markers to allow for my students to engage in their math thinking more effectively. We use our whiteboards and manipulatives every day in math and Phonics, and the students go through whiteboard markers rapidly as a result.

Finally, I will use the culturally responsive books in this project for read-alouds and activities.
