My kindergartners are curious adventurers who love to learn through touch, exploration and stories. Many of my "kids" come from single parent homes. My current class have free eligibility for both breakfast and lunch. Living in a "concrete jungle" I feel it is my job to expose them to animals, art, science, social studies, math and literacy in the classroom throughout EVERY day.
Each and every child deserves to find their niche.
This can be through books, music, art, sciences, but without that exposure they will not know where their true passion lies. That is why this is so important for them.
My Project
These materials will make a more developmentally appropriate transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten. This will be a "kind" way of easing children into true school experience.
Many of the materials requested are to enhance fine motor skills.
The blocks will help them build, problem solve and create. These are all important skills while still having fun and being age appropriate. Plus, the storage cabinet in necessary for the blocks to be kept. The carpet wiill be used in the block area so my students are not sitting on the cold floor while building. The literacy puzzles & games will increase letter recognition and sounds. The mobile cabinet will allow for centers to move freely around the room while keeping them in place. The comfy pillows will give the kids a place to relax and read with a buddy or independently.
I’m really excited for the sensory tables. I know they will love using the floating letters in the water table as well as building with the blocks underwater. The sand can be used to hide and trace letters. Helping the kids further their knowledge of letter formation and recognition.
The buttons will be an additional center for math to assist in sorting along with the number sequence puzzles. The dot painters can be used for letter or number recognition as well as for arts and crafts.
All of these items are necessary for a developmentally appropriate Kindergarten and for a successful
