Keeping Kids Creating!

Help me give my students access to a surplus and a variety of materials -- including tempera paint sticks, twistable crayons, Elmer's glue, and more -- so that they can continue to express their creativity and curiosity.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 4 and 5-years-old and learning so much every day! Due to the pandemic world we are living in, I try to keep up with the supply and demand of materials and their consumption by my young learners. My students are excited learners soaking up all that school has to offer like sponges. My students are creative, inquisitive and determined. A number of my students did not attend preschool, or they had limited interactions with peers due to the pandemic. More than 50% of my students are English language learners; others receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

I want to continue to provide a surplus of a variety of materials for my students so they can continue to imagine, be curious and have the tools needed to express themselves. Often times, my students express their hopes, dreams, feelings, and creativity best through their art projects and drawings.

By providing these materials for my students, they can continue to create at the rate in which their curiosity runs wild, without having to worry about if I have access to or enough of a certain material for each child to use.

Every year, I make two memory books out of my students' writing and art. One of the books is an alphabet book made up of the art they have created for each letter of the alphabet. I take photos of each child with their art of that later and create a book out of it. The rubber cement is the best way to adhere their photos and then each page is laminated and binder ringed together to make a book the students can easily read and turn the pages too.

The other book is a book made up of two special pieces of writing and art from each month of the year. I post a large piece of construction paper on the wall with painters tape, and, as each piece is created, it is posted to the wall and then saved to be bound into a book commemorating the year of work completed. These two precious pieces go on to be memories that my students' families can hold dear to remember this magical year of their child's life.
