My Students

My students are not your typical student population. My school is not your typical school. I work at one of the Alternative Education Centers in Pittsburgh. Most of the students who attend our school are taking Credit Recovery courses to work toward their high school diploma. My students travel from all around the Pittsburgh area, some even taking multiple buses to make it to school.

My students and I are happy to be back to full-time, in-person learning!

That being said Covid-19 variants have made the return to in person challenging. In the last week our district has been forced to close schools because of staffing shortages. I am looking for ways to increase student safety to try to keep my students and me healthy and safe.

We are getting back into the swing of "normal" school while also attempting to be cautious of Covid-19 social distancing guidelines and regulations.

My Project

Currently my school district, like many others throughout the nation, is suffering from staffing shortages due to Covid-19. The Omicron variant has really thrown a curveball. I am requesting a UV Light Sanitizer to help sanitize student masks (and my mask) as well as a two pack of Air Purifiers.

My hope is that a UV Light Sanitizer and Air Purifiers will help to keep both my students and me healthy in order to keep us learning in person for as long as possible.

Unfortunately even though my district and I have been able to provide students with PPE, it is a daily battle asking students to wear their masks appropriately. I wish I could say I didn't have this problem. My administration does what they can; however we cannot control what students and families do outside of our buildings walls. A UV Light Sanitizer and Air Purifier will help to further mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
