My students are hard working, dedicated, and a lot of fun to work with. As percussionists, they put in extra time with both drumline and Percussion Ensemble rehearsals every week.
Talent, Unity, and Pride live strong with my students.
They bring a wide diversity of cultures and and opportunities into the classroom, yet music brings us together and makes us one. That is what I want to continue with my students.
My Project
As we all try to navigate the Covid 19 pandemic, the health and safety of our students is first and foremost in our minds. One of the common recommendations that is coming out of our professional associations is that percussionists have their own set of sticks that are not shared.
A classroom set of sticks and mallets that are shared by all students is not sanitary.
Each wind player has their own instrument that is not shared, and each percussionist should have their own set of sticks and mallets that are not shared, thus helping us mitigate the spread of many germs and diseases.
These students are from a Title 1 district and do not have the resources to purchase these stick kits on their own. The district has many wind instruments for students in need to borrow, but nothing for our percussionists.
