My Project

I am so fortunate to teach approximately 840 students in 37 classes in grades kindergarten through second in technology. My students come from various prior educational experiences. Some students have been back in school since the pandemic while others are new to public schools or even new to our country. All of my students are eager to learn and show excitement when challenged with new learning experiences, especially in the area of computer science and digital literacy.

While our school has technology for students to use including one-to-one devices, Classroom Smartboards, and other activities with shareable iPads, we serve a lot of students and need additional materials that provide hands-on experiences for young learners such as these coding robots.

My Project

These Switcheroo Coding Crew robots are such a unique tool that can be used across all core curriculum areas. Students can use the coding robots to retell a story they have read by coding the events on a mat or they can be used to describe the steps in a process in Science. Students can also practice number fluency by programming the robot to skip count on a number mat. The possibilities for integration are limitless.

Beyond reinforcing and reviewing the core curriculum, these coding robots provide opportunities for problem solving, collaboration, and cooperation, which are valuable skills all learners must be equipped with for the future.

Switcheroo Coding Crew Robots provide additional ways for me to support learning in the students' homerooms, while providing them with lessons in coding.
