Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My youngest students have been so excited to come to Art class during their first week of school. They are eager to be creative and share with each other and myself their experiences with art.
During our discussion today, a 2nd grade girl told me that she likes to learn about the Mona Lisa.
Many other hands went up with questions about the famous painting. Knowing that my students do not get many chances to learn about artists outside my classroom, I would like to provide them with an environment rich in literature that can spark our conversations, and inspire them.
My Project
We will read together each book at the start of class. Students will practice their social skills by discussing the themes presented. These book choices will give students a broader cultural perspective into different types of art.
The books chosen will motivate students to create paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
Students will complete a project based on each book we read out loud as a class.
Draw Me a Star by Eric Carle will be the first book we read to kickstart our creative adventures. Students will find enthusiasm in art by painting their first star, and be able to articulate the importance of imagination.
