My students need practice with dollars and cents with books, games and money. Financial literacy is a crucial life skill for our children to master in order to be a successful citizen.

My Students

Who doesn't love money?! Money is not an easy skill, it involves higher thinking especially when you begin skip counting by 5's, 10's, and 25's. Money is an essential skill as adults we always wish we had more life lessons on how to handle money.

Our 3rd grade classes are a diverse group of students eager to learn.

We have about 20 students in each class. A typical day in 3rd grade is full of reading to our kindergarten friends, researching planets, singing multiplication raps, and acting out our favorite book in reader's theater!

My Project

I want to be able to make the study of finance a real life experience for my students. Our families just like many across the nation have been effected by the economy. WIth these resources students will understand the value of a dollar and how to mangage money. We will also practice making change and counting money, a skill 3rd graders still struggle with. As a 3rd grade team we like to integrate subjects, you can never tell if we are in reading, math, science, or writing. The books will help us teach money/finance to students through literacy!

Our budget has made a cut in providing hand on materials students need to make the connections to the real world.

This project will allow all of the 3rd grade classes to master this fundamental skill and start down a road of financial success.
