Do you remember your teacher calling on you and you couldn't read the words on the page? Each day more and more students shut down or drop out because of embarrassment and lack of self-esteem. Every student in my class is able to learn to read. They just need the right tools.
You can be the reason my students learn to read or read better.
I have a class of 23 students from all over the world. Out of 23 students more than half are struggling readers. They attend a wonderful public school and are lucky to have so many teachers that want to help them. But my students need the right tools to be taught. 13 of my students read below a level 20 ( supposed to be on a 30 or above) and our classroom library is filled with books on level 30 to 40. Therefore, more than a dozen children a day go without truly reading. When a friend asks them to read with them, they can't because the books are too hard. No child should be ashamed or struggle when it comes to reading.
My Project
If you donate a leveled classroom library to my students you would be opening their eyes to many possibilities. They would feel confident to read in front of others since the words in their book are on their level. They would be excited to learn from a new book, and they would be able to read on their own without a teacher guiding them through each word. Most importantly, they would feel like they are good at something. I had a student tell me they were stupid because they couldn't read the same book as other students. With a leveled library no child will feel like they can't read.
Your donation will give that student that sits in class each day, wishing they could read a great book like all their friends, the chance to do so.
They would be able to go into our classroom library and pick a book that they like on their level. Your donation will continue to help struggling readers year after year in my classroom.
