Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

JLMS started a botany program that has grown into one of the most popular elective classes in the school. Students are part of a program we call 'Seed to Table.' They begin by studying and learning about plants and the growing process. Taking class in an actual greenhouse equipped with aquaponics, aeroponics and outdoor raised beds, students in 7th and 8th grade plan the planting, plant, cultivate, maintain, harvest and now are learning how to prepare food from the fruits and vegetables they are actually growing.

Now it is time to turn up the heat as students add culinary arts to the botany curriculum.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
