This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Picture this: 66 students staring at the one teacher. Teacher is thinking, "They are looking at me, THEY GET IT!" Teacher excited says, "Turn in your 5 min check", grades them, and cries. Reset the scene: 66 dry erase boards held up with work that can be assessed and redirected by smiling teacher!

The students of my room are 5th graders attending a K-6 elementary school in Northern California.

We are an economically disadvantaged, 100% free lunch program school. My students are hands-on learners, who are very active and love to share their work immediately. They need to have manipulatives, something to take notes on, or complete and share their work on. Dry erase boards provide the opportunities for mobility and active participation by all. We are a busy class and are up moving around getting the extra support needed with our math and science curriculum.

My Project

Dry erase boards change students' lives by providing a medium for them to show their work and get immediate feedback from the teacher or their peers. When a student works out a problem, holds up their white board (showing all work) I can easily assess 33 student answers and redirect student thinking in minutes. Students who understand the concept being taught get to help their peers to understand. I am able to see where students are having difficulty and redirect their thinking immediately.

Students love dry erase boards, markers, and erasers.

My wish is for all of my students to own their dry erase boards and markers. They will be ecstatic to have their own boards and markers for use in class and at home. They would not have to use Mrs. B's old worn out, stained dry erase boards and flat tipped pens. More pride will be taken with their new tools and the materials will last longer.
