Soon after, the students began asking each other if they could play at recess. \r\n\r\nMoreover, the doodle boards or as we call them \"tables\" were a great addition to our literacy block. They have helped students with visualizing their spelling words and daily vocabulary. When writing their narrative stories they were ask if I could help them spell a word or check their spelling. They've become more independent and expressive when working. \r\n\r\nThe privacy screens and headphones have come in handy when students are completing assignments. My students were so excited to see and use all the new art supplies. They immediately wanted to use them for many of the begining of the year projects. Having different variety of materials has allowed my students to make more choices about how they want to create and express themselves. They especially enjoyed the oil pastels. Many of my students have never seen or even ever used oil pastels before. One of our classmates even used the oil pastels for a school art contest and won first place for 2nd grade! \r\n\r\nStudents are now using these resources during major art projects, writing activities and classroom projects. Students used these materials at the of last year to illustrate a classroom book. This year, students created self portraits and oil pastels art. I have noticed they are more engaged and take greater pride in their work when they have access to various art materials. \r\n\r\nOur next steps will be to continue incorporating these supples for major art project, school art contests and writing activities. We have many seasonal and cultural projects planned for this year. We cannot wait to connect them to reading and writing. Their peers caught on to the reading buzz and started borrowing graphic novels to read to develop their reading fluency.
