My Project

I am the lucky teacher of 18 fifth-graders. They are bright and eager young ladies and gentlemen. Our school is in an ethnically diverse, low-income neighborhood. The kids come to school still ready to learn, despite the challenges they face in their personal lives. In my classroom alone, students speak five different languages; French, Portuguese, Spanish, Somali, and English.

We just moved into a new classroom and have discovered our chairs don't slide well on the floors.

Learning time is being constantly disrupted by the, "Screeeeechhhh..." of chairs being dragged across the floor. We are in a new classroom with laminate floors and not the rug that we are used to. Oddly, the chairs get stuck on the laminate and really make a racket when being pushed in and out.

Placing the tennis balls on the chair legs will help the chairs slide easier and make our new room a quiet learning space.

In addition, the broom and dustpan will help us keep the floors neat and clean. We are proud of our new classroom and want to keep it looking great. Lastly, since kids seem to lose dry-erase markers constantly, we need a box to get us through the rest of the year!
