My Project

Our school is considered a Title I school. Many of the children live in low-income housing, hotels, and could be in shelters. For some, English is their second language and many have experienced traumatic experiences that most of us can hardly comprehend. Some students have special needs and each and every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast and free lunch. My students work hard and are eager to learn new ideas and skills.

Maya Angelou once said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” My students have a story to tell and pictures to draw.

However, we only have fully lined newsprint paper. This is highly inappropriate for kindergarten students.

These students will be charming, smart, sweet, little 5- and 6-year-old children who come to school every day craving knowledge.

The paper and journals I am requesting are perfect for that. The paper has three rows of lines at the bottom and a large area for their illustrations. Oh, AND it is of good quality so when they erase (and oh how they love to erase) the paper will not tear as easily as the newsprint does. I am requesting a lot of paper... but then my students deserve to have as much paper as they need to be as creative as they want to be!
