It's Our History for Us!

Help me give my students books to give them knowledge and a sense of pride in their race.

Columbus, GA Grades PreK-2

My Students

I teach curious and intelligent second graders at a Title I school. They consistently follow the 20 essential rules and expectations that are engrained into our school cultural. In spite of their circumstances, they are dedicated to their education and do their best to be successful.

My Project

Since our school is predominately Black, these books will be used to educate, engage and immerse the students in the struggles and accomplishments of individuals within their race. Many of the books are examples of self-empowerment. The books will help the students build confidence by making text-to-self connections. The dry erase markers will be used to create Venn diagrams to compare historical figures as well as fictional book characters.

This project will certainly help my students gain a sense of pride in themselves and in their history.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
