Since our school is predominately Black, these books will be used to educate, engage and immerse the students in the struggles and accomplishments of individuals within their race. Many of the books are examples of self-empowerment. The books will help the students build confidence by making text-to-self connections. The dry erase markers will be used to create Venn diagrams to compare historical figures as well as fictional book characters. This project will certainly help my students gain a sense of pride in themselves and in their history.
