My students need books that inspire them to think creatively. These books have been recommended by my gifted department and I can't wait to use them in lessons!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are extremely enthusiastic first through fifth grade gifted and talented students. These kids have so much potential to be great leaders. Reading is a favorite activity amongst my students and our classroom library is a place where many students delve in to flesh-out and explore new ideas.
My students are creative, critical thinkers that are filled with boundless energy and curiosity.
They have an innate desire to learn by reading and to truly push the envelope in terms of what is possible.
My Project
These reading materials show kids how to be the be confident in their own skin, even if they feel weird or "different". I am excited to teach these lessons to my students and embed them into our gifted social and emotional learning.
The books I selected promote individuality, creativity, and the crazy notion that it's okay to learn from one's mistakes.
I want my students to know that leaders come in all different shapes, sizes, and learning styles. Too many times, students try to follow the pack, even when they know it's not the right thing to do. I want to have a way to speak to kids about following their hearts and head in order to do what is right through children's literature.
