Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math is a subject students either love or hate coming in. My goal is to build relationships with my students and then get them to slowly realize that we are all in this together. It is not one teacher and 25 students, it is 26 teachers.
The power of peer reviewing helps students realize they are just like everyone else.
All people have strengths and weaknesses. Students just need to realize we are all here to learn and improve together.
My Project
All of our students have so much to offer each other. With the addition of a document camera to the classroom, my students will be able to learn and apply appropriate methods of assessing their peers' performances on particular assignments.
The ultimate goal is building a math community where students are able to reach out to one another without worrying about whether they are right or wrong.
Using this camera, and calculators when needed, I will be able to model how students can assess each other in respectful and helpful ways. Eventually, my goal is to be able to display work from any student on a given day and have the class critique their performance, while also reflecting on their own work.
