My Students

"It's like a sauna in here!" This is the comment made by a highly frustrated student experiencing the stifling heat within my classroom this past summer. Please help us cool down with an air conditioning unit for our classroom.

My students are currently attending a school where 98% of the students are eligible for free lunch based on the income of the family.

I teach a class that combines special needs students with general education students into one setting. Due to the grave lack of resources in the community, most students, regardless of general education or special education classification, are at least one grade level behind. Classroom environment is essential to an effective and productive day, especially when teaching special needs children.

My Project

A classroom air conditioner would greatly impact my current students, by easing the frustration felt coming into a hot stuffy room with no air circulation for 6 hours everyday. Many of my students suffer from various breathing conditions, including asthma and often miss school when the weather becomes too humid. Unfortunately, the location of my classroom, at the back of the building, does not help the sweltering conditions in my classroom, as the air flow is minimal and leaves little opportunity for cross ventilation. An air conditioner would allow my students the opportunity to come to school knowing their classroom will no longer be a "sauna" filled with 25 other hot and frustrated peers, and be a safe place to continue their education.

A donation to this project will have long lasting effects on my current students and many students to come.

Warm weather is always a distraction for kids, especially when those warm days are spent inside of a classroom. However, an air conditioner will allow my students to spend less time complaining about the heat, and more time focusing on the activities going on within the classroom. It will provide a peace of mind for the entire class, including the teachers!!!
