My Project

Sensory equipment help aid students when there is a need for calming. When a student is overstimulated, their sensory systems can get overloaded, causing big emotions to surface that children at times have a difficult time understanding and managing. The bean bag floor pillow body help to create a calm state by letting the body’s nervous system know it’s safe while the essential oil diffuser and oil assist in the process of managing emotions by boosting mood, reducing stress, increasing attentiveness, and reduce anxiety. The light covers create a calming environment reducing the harsh glare of the fluorescent lights.

These sensory items will assist our staff and students in regulating big emotions, helping to calm the sensory system to enable us to help each student problem solve each day.

The equipment we’d like funded will help each of these needs across our entire classroom not only this year, but for many years to follow. Strategic use, along with developmentally appropriate social emotional teaching will provide us more tools to help our students become self-advocates for their wants and needs, along with self-regulating big emotions.
