It Takes a Village! Family Reading Night!

My Students

Our school is full of amazing students. They work hard and put forth tons of effort in order to maintain their learning throughout the year. They are filled with wonder and are always asking great questions that keep the discussions going.

The pandemic has taken a toll on the way our school spends time with families.

It is difficult for our community to get together for health reasons, leaving a gap in our learning village.

My Project

Our school is planning a family event for Love of Reading Week. During this event families will read together and have some fun while doing so. Teachers will choose a book to read and will do activities with families to go with the book.

The pandemic continues to make it difficult for families to come into the school building and gather in large groups.

For this reason, the event will be held virtually. This project will allow for families to have the book being used in their house to read along with the teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity to make reading fun. Students will not be taught skills and procedures for good reading, but will get to read a book with their family and enjoy working together to do a book based project. Funding this project is a way for students to have books in their hands to enjoy reading at home.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
