My students love to sing and chant the alphabet, counting, social studies and science concepts. They also work on centers that help with number sense and letter sounds. My students also love to play math and reading games.
Those first days are the best because I have a room full of students eager to learn about school routines.
Once they learn the routines they help me with the schedule! My students love to listen to stories and draw pictures. At the beginning of the year we turn each letter of the alphabet into a fun animal or picture.
My students are full of energy and are very inquisitive. They are eager to participate in fun projects and show me how much they are learning. Some of them will tell me quietly that they can't read at the beginning of school and I assure them they are in the right place!
My Project
We were given 10 iPads for classroom use during math and reading time. With headphones, students can work in a quiet corner of the class and focus on their leveled activity while other children are in a small group with a teacher. When it's time to switch the next group will be able to quietly put on the headphones and start their work.
It creates a quiet classroom when all students are focused.
When I work with a small group of students my other students can work on Dreambox, a math program that allows students to work at their level, listen to books, or work on reading skills. The software that we use tells students how to complete the assignments.
Using good quality headphones assures me that students will be able to hear properly and focus on leveled work independently all school year. Students are also able to listen to their favorite stories in a comfortable corner of the classroom.
