The dress-up center, complete with mirrors, is a focal point of our room. Some students gather in front of the dress-up center to recite affirmations or ensure they look school-ready. Other students joyfully take costumes and props in and out as they assume the roles of doctor or chef for the day. Thank you for gifting my students with a piece of furniture that has become a gathering spot in our community.\r\n\r\nThis year, we have already used the sensory table significantly more than we did by this time last year. That is in large part due to the waterproof rug, Dirt Devil Vacuum, and disinfecting wipes you gave us! Also, our art center has been another hot spot in our room. We have gotten a lot of use out of the paint, construction paper, drying rack, and tabletop paper organizer. Apple, leaf, and pumpkin art have filled our walls, and I know this is just the beginning of what my students will create with these resources.\r\n\r\nOur celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month was filled with wonderful literature, including the book \"Dulces SueƱos/Sweet Dreams.\" With your help, we celebrated the cultures of some of my students with endearing stories written specifically for their developmental level. Having these materials has allowed me to sit with my students near the rug to demonstrate art projects up close and without using technology.\r\n\r\nSo far, my preschool students have painted full sheets of paper red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. They then cut them into small squares and glued them to create rainbows, complete with cotton-ball clouds. They also rolled bouncy balls through paint to create Rolling Rainbow Art. The kids love to get messy, and I love being able to demonstrate tasks right next to them, without a camera or screen.\r\n\r\nI have used the Dry Erase Board and markers to invite my 1st grade students to come forward to show off their own drawing skills. I also use it to post a list of tasks for them to complete, which I will soon use daily as we get into more multiple-step projects. We have integrated the materials into daily activities, from calming corner breaks with weighted lap pads to sensory bins that support fine motor skill development. One particularly meaningful moment was when a student who typically struggles with transitions independently used a fidget tool to remain calm while moving from one activity to another. Seeing these resources make such a tangible impact has been incredible.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. Many immediately reached out to explore the textures, colors, and movement of the items. Some students who are usually hesitant to participate in group activities eagerly engaged with sensory bins and tactile objects, demonstrating increased focus and interaction. As we move forward, we will continue incorporating these materials into structured learning activities and self-regulation strategies. Our next steps include using the sensory items to support social-emotional learning, helping students recognize their emotions and choose appropriate tools to stay calm and engaged. Thanks to our generous donors, these materials will continue to foster meaningful growth and success in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1681133929305,"projectUrl":"project/asd-sensory-materials/7269333/","projectTitle":"ASD Sensory Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ortega","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7627409_orig.png?crop=405,405,x285,y352&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603938924910","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jill-wilkerson"},{"teacherId":9712200,"projectId":8712182,"letterContent":"I couldn't imagine a better way to start my first year as a teacher than with tools and supplies that support the needs of my students. The sensory tools like the ten-frame poppers and stretchy balls have been particularly popular with my students and provided them with a calming activity to engage in when they aren't feeling calm inside. You provided our community with these tools; I can't thank you enough.\r\n\r\nOur curriculum has a monthly theme called \"My Community.\" That month, we learned about the different people in our community and the jobs they do. When I first unveiled the firefighter, chief, and construction worker costumes, my students literally shouted with joy! We continue to engage in dramatic play about various occupations, and each time we pull out our basket of costumes, there is still much delight in acting out those three roles.\r\n\r\nWe ease into each morning by playing with personal boxes of table toys. All 20 of our brilliant preschoolers get to energetically put together two-headed robots with snap bots or towering castles with magnetiles. The toys and tools you provided are utilized in every part of our day. They are well-used and well-loved. And they will be for years to come! Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1725989843533,"projectUrl":"project/fun-for-all-preschool-toys-and-calming/8712182/","projectTitle":"Fun for All! I could submit a request for help, and strangers would not only respond to it but also do so quickly and with immense generosity. How could that be? As a first-year teacher, offering my students as many tools as possible to support their education and growth has been a tremendous blessing.\r\n\r\nI inherited a beautiful classroom with very little storage. I care for 20 preschoolers from various backgrounds, many of whom are new to this country and excited about making it home. I want our classroom to feel like a second home for them. Receiving the Lakeshore All-Purpose Storage Tray Center impacted my students' feeling that our classroom belongs to them. Each morning, part of their routine is to check their \"mailbox\" to see if they have morning activities from me. At the end of the school day, they fill their backpacks with artwork, notes from friends, and other items they collect and keep safe in the storage center throughout the school day. Seeing their names and photos in a mailbox filled with memories from the day still excites them as it did the first day I introduced this furniture piece.\r\n\r\nPlay-dough has been a favorite activity this year. Changing the color of the play-dough each month to match our theme allows my students to make more learning connections while they enjoy play. Not only are they identifying and matching color, describing textures, and creating sculptures, but they are also giving their tiny hands and fingers a workout that they need to become the writers, crafters, and laborers that our world needs!\r\n\r\nI can't say thank you enough for supporting us, contributing to our creativity, and making us feel at home!","fullyFundedDate":1731379729040,"projectUrl":"project/for-tiny-pre-k-authors-and-illustrators/8768395/","projectTitle":"For Tiny Pre K Authors and Illustrators!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ivory","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9712200_orig.jpg?crop=617,617,x306,y51&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725031419627","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9712200"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54919","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":450,"numTeachers":65,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":9,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"6.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.4,"schoolId":54919,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Folwell Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Folwell Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minneapolis-public-schools/ramsey-int-l-fine-arts-center/54919"}
