This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school predominantly serves English language learners and trying to plan comprehensible strategies and activities can be challenging and tiresome. They enter our classroom smiling and eager to learn on a daily basis. I want to continue to ignite their desire for knowledge and provide them with exciting lessons that enable them to reach their full potential.

I envision all students in kinder through 2nd grade as readers and writers.

We are working diligently and strategically to intervene with phonics, fluency and writing skills so that when they have the foundation necessary for comprehension and critical skills.

My Project

Do you know what the most accurate predictor of academic achievement is? The best predictor of student success is the extent to which families encourage learning at home and involve themselves in their child’s education.

Children with engaged parents are more likely to graduate from high school, attend college, and develop self-confidence and motivation in the classroom.

We will have workshops after school where a parent and child work together on the iPads. We would like a class set so we can show parents apps they can download and play at home. Many do not speak English so we will show them how to use the apps on the new iPads. We will use these iPads for math and language arts apps. These apps are free so we just need to show the parents how to play. The cases are to protect them from slippery little hands.

Kids love playing games but the extra plus is it’s educational.
