My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of lack of supplies and resources.
Our school is nestled in the heart of western Maine, which was once surrounded by bustling mills. Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
My students absolutely love learning through technology and expressing their creativity through art. The OSMO combines their loves together - they become a designer, coder, mathematician, race car driver, problem solver, and creator, all while utilizing technology! Adding two iPad minis to our classroom will allow students to use them independently at a station rotation during our mathematics block. In addition to using these with OSMO, students can use these as a listening center for audio books, cameras Currently, we have access to two iPad mini and OSMO sets, and they are an absolute favorite in the classroom. The iPad mini cases will help keep our iPads safe for years to come!
Our classroom students are most familiar with the OSMO Monster, but we have watched videos of the new racing experience, and the students have said how excited they would be to have it in our classroom!
The OSMO Genius kit will allow students to practice math, sight words, and increase their understanding of geometric shapes and how they fit together with the Words, Tangrams, and Math programs.
While our classroom is an active learning space full of many different sights and sounds, it can often become over-stimulating to students who have sensory concerns and trouble with adjusting to the noise. The noise canceling headphones will ensure that each student in our room is able to be successful in their learning and have the tools they need. When students travel outside of our classroom to specials, they can bring the headphones with them to help maintain their focus.
Together, these supplies will make our classroom an active learning space where students are able to express themselves through their individual learning style!
