Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The pandemic impacted how I approach lesson planning and teaching. It requires technology almost daily however, my current setup doesn’t always work as it should.

I need a tool that is reliable, will allow me to interact with my presentations as I teach math, and that will also let me move around the classroom to keep students engaged.

An Apple 12.9 inch iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil 2nd generation stylus would be perfect for this. Here are a few ways that they will enhance my planning and teaching as well as my students' classroom experience:

1) Instruction. All my lessons are created using PowerPoint. The iPad be used to create these slides and to mirror them onto my board so students can follow along. I will have the ability to write over slides, use colored pens/ highlighters to emphasize important topics and color code, and I would have access to the internet for videos, pertinent websites, and online calculators. An iPad would allow for a much more dynamic and personalized presentation for my students.

2) Making Videos. I make videos but it is difficult to do because I don’t have the right tools. There are apps that I can use with an iPad that would allow me to make and edit videos that students could watch when they are absent or when they need a refresher.

3) Student Engagement. An iPad allows me to walk around the room as I am teaching and interact with students. This proximity helps with both behavior and student engagement, especially since the students can ask questions and get help right when they need it. It also allows for students to be able to interact with the lessons too by allowing them to solve problems on the iPad as I am walking around presenting.
