Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an amazing school in the heart of Boston. My classroom is a preschool inclusion classroom serving children from ages three to five. All of my students receive free lunch, and most are English language learners. Because my school is so diverse, all of my students come from varying backgrounds and have a wide range of abilities. It is such a great privilege of mine to be able to watch these children grow and build an important foundation of knowledge.
Coming into school this school year, I want to ensure that each child in my class has the materials he or she needs to succeed and master our curriculum.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad 2 with a child-friendly cover for my students to document their learning. I would like for students to use the iPad to take pictures of work that is important to them and share with their family using our Homeroom app. We will create a portfolio of all of the pictures for documentation and student assessment. We can also use the iPad for STEAM projects like the app Green Screen students have been working with.
When teaching and learning is visible, there is a greater likelihood of students reaching higher levels of achievement.
Students documenting their own work will make their learning a more meaningful process resulting in higher engagement. Students will be able to reflect on their work and share visuals with the class during thinking and feedback. An example of this would be a student building a skyscraper in the block area, photographing it and then sharing with the group to gain feedback. Using photographs student growth will be measured over time in areas of interest.
