My Students

My school is a Title I school in an urban low-income school district where most students qualify for free lunch. My school is dedicated to providing a safe and engaging environment along with an enriching school experience where the curriculum is accessible to all learners.

In my first-grade full inclusion classroom, typically developing students learn alongside students who have special needs.

My students thrive in a literacy and math-rich classroom where they can grow their vocabulary, explain their thinking and understanding to their peers, interact with other students and apply academic language to their daily conversations.

My Project

My classroom needs new read-aloud books that reflect the diverse population of my students. This Interactive Read-Aloud Collection will promote the joy of reading, develop children’s vocabulary, and increase their ability to think, talk, and write about texts that fully engage their interest.

Interactive read-alouds allow readers to experience rich, interesting texts that are age and grade appropriate, regardless of their independent or instructional reading level.

Books provide a context for learning how to talk about texts with others. Interactive read-aloud lessons build a community of learners with shared literary knowledge while expanding language, vocabulary, and building a foundation of mentor texts for reading and writing mini-lessons.

The Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Interactive Read-Aloud Collection, Grade 1 includes 120 trade titles, 120 lesson folders, 25 text set folders, and an FPC Interactive Read-Aloud Collection Guide.
